How to configure an App Password for BlueSky
Step-by-step tutorial to connect securely with AntropoBlue
But, what exactly is an App Password?
Basically it's like giving AntropoBlue a special key, but not the master key to your account:
- Very specific access: With this key, AntropoBlue can only read public posts. It cannot write, delete, or touch anything else
- You always have control: If you want to cut the connection, simply revoke this special key. Your main password doesn't change
- Total privacy: BlueSky never sees your real password. Everything works with this temporary key
1Enter BlueSky's configuration
First of all, open BlueSky. Then navigate to:
- If you're on the browser: Click your profile photo → Settings → Privacy and Security
- From the mobile app: Go to Profile → Settings → Privacy and Security
2Locate the App Passwords section
Once inside Privacy and Security, look for the section that says App Passwords. Depending on the language it might appear as Application Passwords.
3Generate your App Password
Now click the
button (or if it's in another language)Tip for the name: Type AntropoBlue
This way you'll remember why you created this access key
This way you'll remember why you created this access key
4Copy the password it generates
BlueSky will generate a password that will look like this: abcd-efgh-ijkl-mnop
Attention! Copy this password immediately. BlueSky will never show it to you again.
5Connect with AntropoBlue
When AntropoBlue asks you to enter the data to connect:
- As username: Put your complete BlueSky handle (for example: myname.bsky.social)
- As password: Paste the App Password you just copied (and no, it's NOT your usual password!)
🔄 How to manage your App Password
If at any time you want to disconnect AntropoBlue from your account:
- Return to exactly the same place: Privacy and Security → App Passwords
- Look for "AntropoBlue" within the list of connected applications
- Click (or depending on language)
With this, AntropoBlue will immediately lose access to your account. Your main password remains the same and other apps you have connected are not affected.
💡 Some final tips
- This App Password is yours only - don't share it with anyone
- If you suspect someone might have seen it, revoke it without worry and create another one
- You can have as many App Passwords as you want, one for each app you use
